The river Roja, which runs to the sea, splits the beach and the city of Ventimiglia in two. The vegetation that runs alongside it, ending where the sand begins, is home to a group of migrants, numbering from three to a maximum of ten individuals, who wash their clothes in the river’s waters.

Similar situations of informality (makeshift camps and informal settlements) are increasing throughout Italy (MSF, 2018). This abandonment and territorial dispersion of migrants have become the latest form of the strategy of migration management strategy in Italy.
